    Latecomer but firm believer

At first, I hardly had any information about the United Filipino Seafarers (UFS) before I boarded my first ship. However, on my second contract, under Bridge Marine Corporation (BMC), I had the opportunity to work with a UFS volunteer, Allan Danghil, who told me about UFS – how it helps seafarers. Moreover, he told me about how selfless you have been in your advocacy for better working conditions and improved benefits package for seafarers.
Understanding your crucial role in improving the Filipino seafarers, I felt only regret in not being able to join UFS earlier. However, I know it’s not too late to do so. Please send me an application form as well as a subscription for Tinig ng Marino.  – Norman B. Almario, 2/AE, M/T Sun Challenger
(Thank you for your letter. You can fill up the membership form and subscription form published in every issue of Tinig and send these to us. -- Editor)

    Cadet wants to join UFS

I only read Tinig ng Marino but since then I became a loyal reader of the best seafarer’s newspaper. Aside from a true source of “what’s happening” in the maritime sector, Tinig is a total read replete with information about all the issues concerning the maritime industry.
I am very eager to join UFS, will you accept a cadet as member of UFS? I have already undertaken OJT onboard interisland ships as messman/waiter. — Cdt. Dunuan P. Santiago, Bulacan Merchant Marine Academy
(You are welcome to join UFS. Fill up the form published in your copy of Tinig and send it to us. -- Editor)

    UFS, a genuine seafarers' union

We just received copies of the latest issue of Tinig ng Marino, brought by UFS volunteer David Alderete, who recently boarded our ship. After reading the issue, we were convinced that there’s no other seafarers’ union and union leader like UFS and you, Engr. Nelson Ramirez, dedicated to the cause of seafarers. Moreover, Tinig also serves as a forum for seafarer’s ideas and concerns.
We are therefore sending you our application for membership to UFS, including subscription forms. – C/E Henedino Magayon, M/V Paul X
(Thank you very much for a heart-warming letter. We’ll process your request soonest. – Editor)

— David Alderete, M/V Paul X

    Gustong maging UFS volunteer

– Editor)

Greetings to the No. 1 seafarer

This is to greet you a warm belated happy birthday and Merry Christmas. To tell you frankly, I haven’t forgotten your help. Sana, tuluy-tuloy ang inyong pagtulong sa mga seafarers na tulad ko and we will always pray for your health. – Benjamin Limjocon Jr., M/V Crane, Bright Maritime Corporation
    (Thank you. -- Editor)

    UFS training, very useful

After I was promoted as an AB, I could not help but think of all the things you taught me during my volunteer days at UFS.
Life at sea is difficult, but the thought of earning enough and being able to help my parents give me enough strength in my work onboard M/V Striggla, a cargo vessel.

— Oliver Mainit, M/V Siti Hajar, Imperial Victory Shipping Inc.
(Salamat din sa pagsulat at pag-alala mo. -- Editor)

    From a retired seafarer

Tinig ng Marino is an exceptional newspaper serving the interest of seafarers and the whole maritime industry. During my time, sailing the seven seas, there was no such Filipino maritime newspaper that is circulated worldwide.
I doff my hat to the editor and his staff for coming out with very interesting feature stories and extensive coverage of issues that matter. Likewise, the opinion page gives an insight on burning issues not only within the Philippine maritime sector but also on the international scene.
— Retired Master now residing in Tarlac (name withheld upon request)
(We are interested in these "anomalies" and "follies" during your time. It may still be relevant and could enlighten many of the present players in the industry, particularly the seafarers.. -- Editor)

-- Editor)
